The short version

Take Two Interactive chief executive Strauss Zelnick said "Piracy is a fact of life" at the Wall Street Journal's WSJ Tech event in Napa Valley, PC Gamer and GamesRadar+ report. If piracy becomes a problem, he said Take Two would respond with legal work and then technical work. He named no specific tool. GTA 6 launches on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and no PC version has been announced.

Quick answer

What did Take Two's CEO say about GTA 6 piracy?

Take Two Interactive chief executive Strauss Zelnick says GTA 6 piracy is "a fact of life". Speaking at the Wall Street Journal's WSJ Tech event, as reported by PC Gamer and GamesRadar+, he said Take Two would respond "with legal work and then with technical work" if it became a problem. GTA 6 launches on 19 November.

Strauss Zelnick has a five word view of GTA 6 piracy. Asked about piracy two weeks before GTA 6 launches, the Take Two Interactive chief executive opened with "Piracy is a fact of life," GamesRadar+ reports.

He said it at WSJ Tech, the Wall Street Journal's conference in Napa Valley on 3 and 4 November. The event agenda lists his session as "The Biggest Launch in Gaming", 10.15am to 10.40am PT, with WSJ deputy media editor Jessica Toonkel. Every quote here comes from PC Gamer and GamesRadar+ reporting on that sit down. We have not seen a WSJ transcript or video.

What did Strauss Zelnick say about GTA 6 piracy?

He called piracy a fact of life and said Take Two has two ways to answer it. He leaned on his years in film and music. In movies, he said, they figured on 10 to 20% piracy at any given time, and by the mid 2000s about 80% of the record market was pirated.

Games are harder to pirate because of their file sizes and complexity, he argued. Piracy is "less of an issue in interactive entertainment", he said, according to PC Gamer.

"And in the event where it turns into an issue we address it in the same way every other business does, which is with legal work and then with technical work, and we'll have to do both," PC Gamer quotes him. GamesRadar+ prints the same line with slightly different wording.

He did not say what that technical work would be, and neither outlet names any copy protection for GTA 6. PC Gamer adds that Take Two has already used the courts, after a judge granted its subpoena asking Discord for user information about the GTA 6 leaks.

Does GTA 6 need an internet connection to stop piracy?

Nobody has said so, and Zelnick was talking about Take Two's games in general, as PC Gamer reports it. He said that "for all of our games you have to be connected with our servers to have a good experience." He questioned whether pirates would set up rival servers, and said the result "won't be a great experience. But it's not nothing."

That is not a description of how GTA 6 works. GTA 6 launches as a single player game, and no GTA 6 Online mode has been announced for 19 November.

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?

No PC version has been announced. Rockstar's GTA VI page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S when we checked on 5 November, with the launch on 19 November 2026. So Zelnick's comments land on a console launch.

When will Take Two talk about GTA 6 again?

On 9 November. Take Two reports its quarterly results that day, ten days before launch.

Zelnick is already pitching more than GTA. In a Wall Street Journal interview, GamesRadar+ reports, he said Take Two has "the best collection of owned intellectual property in the video game business". He pointed to 15 franchises that have each sold at least 5 million units in an individual release, and said Red Dead Redemption sold over 65 million units in its most recent release, with NBA 2K, Borderlands and BioShock also on his list.

Our release date guide has every date between now and 19 November.
