GTA 6 USK Rating Lands at 18 for PS5 and Xbox

Both console versions are now in the USK database. The uncut question is still waiting on Rockstar.

GTA 6 is rated USK 18 in Germany, listed as no youth release under section 14 of the German Youth Protection Act. Germany's age raters have reached the verdict everyone expected. The USK database now lists Grand Theft Auto VI as keine Jugendfreigabe, meaning no youth release, for PS5 and Xbox Series.

The USK, or Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle, is the body that age rates games sold in Germany. Its entries carry a check date and a number, so you can see exactly when each version went through.

Why is GTA 6 rated 18 in Germany?

The USK gives three reasons, drastic violence, drugs and criminal role models. Each comes with a short explanation in the database, translated here by us.

Violence in the game is clearly visualised or heavily focused, the USK says, and drugs or drug use are shown positively or often. The note on criminal role models is the longest. It says crimes are shown uncritically or played down, naming robberies and illegal street races presented as adventure, and the uncritical portrayal of criminal organisations, up to glorifying them.

None of that is a surprise. Golem points out that GTA 5 got the same USK rating, and Rockstar Games already shows the US ESRB Mature 17+ label for GTA 6.

Does GTA 6 have in game purchases?

The USK says it does. Both listings carry the in game purchases notice, which the USK defines as options to buy extra content directly.

The entry does not say what that content is. The examples on the listing are general ones the USK uses for every game, such as skins, virtual currency, subscriptions and upgrades. So the label tells you purchases exist, and nothing more.

Is GTA 6 uncut in Germany?

Nobody has confirmed it. GamePro says it has asked Rockstar whether the rated version is uncut and will report the answer.

On X, German accounts such as HypeYourGames read the rating as no sign of a cut version. One account claimed the opposite, arguing that the listing has no sexual content reason. That argument is weak. GamePro explains that German youth protection weighs nudity differently from the US, so its absence from the USK reasons tells you little.

The US rating Rockstar displays on the Launch Trailer page lists Nudity and Strong Sexual Content among its descriptors. The new trailer itself includes intimate scenes, as our Launch Trailer breakdown notes. Until Rockstar answers, treat both the cut and uncut claims as unconfirmed.

What does USK 18 mean for buying GTA 6 in Germany?

It means German shops sell GTA 6 to adults only. The USK says games with this label are not approved for anyone under 18.

Most stores were already working that way. In August, GamesWirtschaft reported that the USK advised stores to treat unrated games like USK 18 until a final label arrived, and that retailers such as Amazon did so. Now the label is final for both consoles.
